Access to tuberculosis treatment and social rehabilitation for prisoners and released prisoners
Republican public organization "Afif" in cooperation with Head Department of Penal System under the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Tajikistan and National Tuberculosis Program of the Ministry of health and social protection of the population of the Republic of Tajikistan, conducted a two-day training on "START Plus: client management of patients with tuberculosis and drug-resistant tuberculosis in prisons". Training was conducted on July 2–3, 2020, in Dushanbe in the framework of the TB Prevention and Care in Prisons project, funded by United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
The main goal of the two-day training was to increase the knowledge and skills of employees of Penal system under the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Tajikistan and public organizations on tuberculosis prevention among prisoners and social support of TB patients before and after release from prisons.
The project "TB Prevention and Care in Prisons" is aimed to mobilize resources and strengthen the capacities of penitentiary and civilian health sectors of the Republic of Tajikistan and civil society organizations (CSOs) to introduce a sustainable system of early TB detection, timely treatment, and adherence support for prisoners, and post release prisoners with TB, DR-TB and TB/HIV.
