Legal issues

Hello. Please tell me if there are legal restrictions to outreach workers who do not have a medical education, on intramuscular injection of Naloxon to the client in the case of overdose during drug injection. Thank you very much.

Hello!

A person who does not have medical education has no right to inject drugs, especially a drug as Naloxone. If you, as an outreach worker, took specialized courses and were trained (dosage of the injected drug, intravenous injections, intramuscular injections, etc.) and you have a certificate based on which you have the right to provide these services as an outreach worker, there is nothing illegal in your work. There are also cases when a person is overdosed and the ambulance is late, but you know the exact dosage and you have this drug on hand. In this case, while the life of a person is more important, you can provide the first aid.

Respectfully,

Nigina Hodzhimatova
