Republican Public Organization “Afif” is launching a new five-year USAID ETICA project to eliminate tuberculosis in Central Asia. The project aims to reduce the burden of tuberculosis (TB) in Central Asia by strengthening local and regional capacities to better detect and treat drug-resistant TB (DR-TB). This project is funded by the United States Agency for International Development in Central Asia (USAID Central Asia).
As part of the project, Afif will assist in detecting tuberculosis patients among labor migrants and people living with HIV infection and providing them with social, medical and legal support. Afif will work in raising TB awareness among labor migrants and PLHIV, as well as those who have been particularly affected by this disease. The project will be implemented in seven cities and districts of Khatlon and Sughd regions. The organization will provide health education, raise awareness about TB symptoms, the access to free TB treatment, and disseminate information materials.
