On May 17 and 24, 2018, regular workshops of representatives of the Republican AIDS Center, the AFEW-Tajikistan, HIV service organizations and PWUDscommunities were conducted in Kulob and Bokhtar cities of Khatlon region.
The events aimed to familiarize the partners with the new AFEW-Tajikistan’s approaches to increase access of the key populations to online consultations with medical experts and lawyers through portal www.afew.tj and HIV express testing service and counseling based on the public organizations.
During the workshops, the AFEW-Tajikistan presented an innovative model of social reintegration of PWUDs designed to support self-motivation of recovering drug users to continuous lifelong adherence to OST and АRV therapy, vocational guidance courses, business planning training and subsequent employment.
In 2018, the AFEW-Tajikistan continued implementing its long-term strategy to increase participation and practical involvement of the key population in planning, implementation and monitoring of HIV and AIDS projects. Thus, at the meeting, the AFEW-Tajikistan has presented work results on establishment of the Key Population’s Advisory councils and introduced the Clients complaints system based on the public organizations in Dushanbe, Bokhtar, Kulob and Khudjand. Head of NGO "Tajikistan Network of Women Living with HIV" has presented information on the system for clients complaints handling and establishing of KP’ Advisory Councils.
The events were organized in cooperation with the Republican AIDS Center in the framework of the project "Bridging the Gaps: Health and Rights for Key Populations – 2.0", funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Netherlands. The similar meeting with local public organizations was held in Khujand on May 3 this year.
