Development of family medicine in the Republic of Tajikistan

On November 22, 2019 in Dushanbe was conducted republican scientific and practical conference  “Development, Performance and Prospects of Family Medicine” which is devoted to the 20th anniversary celebration of the introduction of family medicine in the Republic of Tajikistan. On conference participated over than 200 representatives of Ministry of health and social protection of population of the Republic of Tajikistan, health care authorities, educational organizations, public organizations, staff of Research institutes, also managers and staff of health care institutes. On the platform of this conference were discussed main achievements and barriers to development of family medicine in Tajikistan and were outlined further steps of development. During the conference was provided information about best practices of other countries, were organized and held breakout sessions in priority areas according to the “Strategic Plan for the Development of Family Medicine-based Primary Health Care in Tajikistan for period 2016-2022”.

Primary health care refers to essential health care, which is based on prevention, diagnostics, treatment, medical rehabilitation, monitoring pregnancy, and formation of healthy life style to sanitary and hygienic education of the population. Provision of accessible and quality primary health care must be a priority in the development of health care system.

During the conference were discussed issues on problems of family medicine and its development perspectives, including HIV/AIDS and TB prevention and problems of obesity and wrong life style.

RPO “Afif” presented a report entitled “Interaction experience with public organizations and institutes of health care in HIV and TB prevention in the Republic of Tajikistan”, and shared experience of interaction with public organization and health care institutes on HIV and TB prevention in the Republic of Tajikistan.

Republican scientific and practical conference was organized by support of Ministry of health and social protection of population of the Republic of Tajikistan.
