Information sessions on prevention of coronavirus infection (COVID-19) expansion among prison staff and prisoners in penitentiary institutions

On May-June 2020, Republican Public Organization "Afif" and Head Department of Penal System under the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Tajikistan in cooperation with Tajikistan Red Crescent conducted series of information sessions on prevention of coronavirus infection (COVID-19) and safety at the workplace among prison staff and prisoners in penitentiary institutions in Dushanbe, Nurek, Khujand cities and Vahdat, Yavan districts.
During information sessions, participants received information on transmission routes and preventive measures of coronavirus infection, recommended by World Health Organization, as well as the need to ensure the rights of prisoners to receive basic medical services and specialized medical care in prisons.
These activities were conducted in framework of the project "Prevention of coronavirus infection (COVID-19) expansion in Penal System of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Tajikistan", which is funded by Open Society Institute Assistance Foundation in Tajikistan.
